The popularity and success of any school depends greatly on the quality of
the teachers and methodology. At APPROACH you will enjoy learning English
from native speakers who have had previous experience teaching in an international
environment. All instructors at Approach have university
degrees, and most have received advanced degrees in Teaching English as a
Second Language or related fields. Strong professional skills combined with
a warm and caring attitude set this faculty apart from others. Best of all

and intensive class participation you need in order to learn.

Approach is open year-round from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday to Thursday. You
can choose when you want to begin and what time you want to attend classes.
Your schedule can be changed every week according to your needs. Approach has
a unique and flexible program: It is the only English school in Boston with
a program in which students of any level are guaranteed a lesson whenever they
can come to school. Registration takes place every day. After an English placement
test and interview with an instructor, a course level is determined and the
student can start scheduling classes.

After completing your English course at APPROACH with a satisfactory attendance
and performance, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and a Transcript
which states the course you participated in and the level you attained. Any
honors achieved will be noted on your official APPROACH transcript. Every
student at Approach receives a Student Identification Card.
Multimedia
Labs
Students at Approach supplement their classroom experiences with exercises in
our multimedia labs. Our labs, which include audio, video and computer components,
give students the opportunity to take advantage of the latest technology in
second language acquisition. Specialized grammar, listening, pronunciation,
and vocabulary enhancement lessons are designed to accelerate the learning process.
Access
to Internet and E-mail
APPROACH understands that you need to stay in touch with family and friends
around the globe. Free Internet access is available in our computer lab for
research or e-mail communication.
Institutional
TOEFL®
The Institutional TOEFL® is a multiple choice, paper-based test, used to
measure an individual's ability to understand English. Although Institutional
TOEFL® scores cannot be officially submitted to schools, the advantages
of the Institutional TOEFL® are that it is less expensive, and less intimidating
to individuals prior to taking the TOEFL® test. The answer sheets are scored
by the Educational Testing
Service (ETS) in Princeton, NJ. Test takers can expect to receive score
results approximately two weeks after the answer sheets are received by the
ETS®. Approach offers the Institutional TOEFL® several times per year.
International
Students and Visa Issues
The school issues I-20 Certificates for the F-1 student visa only to students
registered in our full time programs (from 20 to 32 hours a week). Candidates
who enter the United States on student visas must maintain good academic standing
and remain enrolled in full time in courses. Those who fail to do so will not
be eligible for the F-1 student visa status and the benefits of the F-1
visa category.
International students who are not under the F-1 visa, but are considering studying
at Approach, should ensure that they have visas that will enable them to study
and remain in the United States for the duration of their studies. Tourist visas
are usually valid from three to six months and are not designated by the US
Immigration and Naturalization Service for study purposes; therefore, they are
rarely extended for educational reasons.
University
Conditional Acceptance
Students applying to Approach are automatically accepted into Mass Bay Community
College, to pursue a certificate or associate degree upon completion of our
English program. Approach also holds a special admissions relationship for our
graduates with Arthur D. Little School of Management, Lesley University, the
MFA - Museum of Fine Arts, Pine Manor College and Simmons College, among other
colleges and universities.
University
Classes
Advanced students are welcome to attend courses at Harvard University, Boston
University, Mass Bay Community College and Northeastern University, among others.
This is an opportunity to experience American university life while improving
your English and making new friends.
Activities
and Excursions
At APPROACH we enjoy going out. We believe that exposing our students to American
culture facilitates language acquisition and is a valuable experience for
future life and business situations. We publish a monthly
activities calendar which you will receive on your first day of classes.
Afternoon activities include tours, sporting events, games, movies, and other
attractions. Trips and weekend excursions to various points of interest are
planned every month, so you will never lack for fun and exciting things to
do outside of classes.
